Cinnamon: A Teen's Survival
and Romance on
the Appalachian Trail

In 2001, Linda’s daughter, Erin, hiked the entire 2,160 miles of the Appalachian Trail. Her students’ interest in Erin’s hike inspired Linda to write a young adult fictional novel about a teen’s adventure on the Appalachian Trail. Erin, whose trail name is Teatree, became Cinnamon in Linda’s novel. Her story is about the colorful characters, everyday struggles and inner conflict one experiences while trekking through 14 states from Georgia to Maine. This hike includes the horrific events of the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center and how, even on the isolated trail, worldwide events affect the hikers.

Erin summits Mt. Katahdin, Maine on October 4, 2001 after six and a half long months of hiking from Georgia.

Erin and Linda hike to a waterfall near Littleton, New Hampshire.
